Cuckoo

Sep 20, 2026

Horror-thriller (2024), 1h 42m.

Plot Summary (Spoilers)

  • After her mother's death, teenager Gretchen moves to a resort in the Bavarian Alps with her father, his new wife Beth, and her mute half-sister Alma.
  • Strange things pile up: a bird call that triggers Alma's seizures, a hooded woman stalking and attacking people, vomitting guests, and time loops that make Gretchen relive the same night.
  • Detective Henry, investigating murders linked to the hooded woman, teams up with Gretchen.
  • Resort director Dr. König is revealed to be protecting the hooded woman — she belongs to an ancient species that impregnates human women so its offspring are raised by humans, like a cuckoo in another bird's nest.
  • Alma is half-Cuckoo; König has been running a breeding scheme around the species.
  • In the hospital chaos, Gretchen kills the Cuckoo mother, saves Alma, and the sisters escape while König and Henry die.

My Thoughts (Spoilers)

  • The first half was interesting — the story, cast, and atmosphere were all good.
  • The atmosphere and visuals were great.
  • But the more the film explained its mysteries, the more it went downhill.
